On Thursday, August 2nd, The St. Kitts Nevis Patriots battled with the Premier’s XI select team in an Exhibition Match for the 3rd year in a row. In what has become an annual tradition and treat for the Nevisian fans in particular, the Patriots lent a dazzling display of their world class talent and had a good time, fraternizing with the select XI and local fans alike. The idea of playing in a friendly match against young cricketers from both islands was to give the youth some well needed exposure, provide a forum in which they could simulate a professional match and display their talents at the highest level. The event was a booming success and the Patriots prevailed over the Premier’s XI team once again at Elquemedo Willet Park.
Nevis’ Premier (and avid Patriot fan) Hon. Mark Brantley was in attendance once again to show his support for the Patriots. Brantley was presented with a freshly curated and customized 2018 Patriots kit and Premier’s XI Kit, while he highlighted that the support of Nevis is crucial in the holistic success of the team. Hon. Eric Evelyn, Nevis Island Administration Minister of Sports also extended his support for the event. Both the Nevis government officials and the Patriots franchise believe that through cricket and sports in general, longstanding relationships can be built while teaching the importance of commitment and discipline. Cricket also provides an excellent avenue for the youth to get involved in positive community-building activity whilst developing their skills.
The Patriots continued to show their loyalty to fans as they took pictures and socialized with fans. As has become the custom, the players autographed t-shirts and other merchandise for the elated fan base. There were ticket giveaways for the upcoming matches to be held in the Federation at Warner Park, which commence on August 28th. Overall, it was a fun and exciting experience for all stakeholders and now the Patriots look forward to starting their campaign, looking to again make the finals and bring the first Hero CPL T20 trophy to the island’s shores.
The Patriots would like to remind the general public to come out and support the team especially on August 28th to September 4th at Warner Park, St. Kitts. They play their first match in Guyana against the Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 9that 6pm.
