St Kitts & Nevis Patriots came agonisingly close to defending 187, but Antigua & Barbuda Falcons held their nerve to chase down the target with three wickets and three balls to spare, securing a thrilling three-wicket victory.
A Strong Platform from the Patriots
After being asked to bat first, the Patriots put together a competitive 187 for 6 from their 20 overs. Kyle Mayers provided the early impetus with a quick 34 from 18 balls, giving the innings momentum in the powerplay.
Jason Holder then contributed a steady 27 from 25 balls, with Nikhil Chaudhary adding 15. The Patriots continued to build towards a competitive total, but their biggest push was still to come.
Shanaka Lights Up the Finish
Dasun Shanaka produced a spectacular late assault, smashing an unbeaten 49 from just 17 balls. His innings included five fours and four sixes and came at a remarkable strike rate of 288.24.
Wanindu Hasaranga added an unbeaten 7 from three balls as the Patriots finished on 187 for 6, giving their bowlers a challenging total to defend.
Patriots Strike Back
The Patriots made an early breakthrough as Amir Jangoo was dismissed for 2, giving St Kitts & Nevis an important start with the ball. Evin Lewis and Karima Gore then added a partnership, but the Patriots kept searching for openings and continued to apply pressure.
Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder led the fight with the ball, claiming two wickets each. Holder produced another crucial breakthrough by removing Hassan Nawaz for 33, leaving the Falcons at 114 for 4 and keeping the Patriots firmly in the contest.
A Glimmer of Hope
As the chase entered its final stages, the Patriots refused to let the game slip away. Wanindu Hasaranga produced a stunning moment in the field, taking a spectacular catch to dismiss Shadab Khan for 30 and give the Patriots another glimmer of hope.
The breakthrough brought the Falcons back under pressure. The Patriots continued to fight until the very end. Shamar Springer was dismissed for 15 with the Falcons on 179 for 7, leaving just nine runs required.
Falcons Hold Their Nerve
Moeen Ali stayed unbeaten and hit the winning runs as Antigua & Barbuda Falcons reached 191 for 7 in 19.3 overs, completing a three-wicket victory with three balls remaining.
Plenty to Take Forward
In the end, 187 was not quite enough, but there were plenty of positives for the Patriots to take from the contest. Shanaka’s explosive finish, Mayers and Holder’s contributions with both bat and ball, and the team’s ability to keep the Falcons under pressure for much of the chase will give them confidence going forward.
